The Revolution Will Not Be

Maybe this is how I should have ended playback. Some call to movement that was noted by basically nobody. I learned that on the internet, almost anybody could here you scream, but almost certainly no one will... This started as a beautifully formatted html document, apparently because I used some microsoft template, cause I sure as hell didn't parse that html. This is just an ugly cut and paste.

M.A.P.S.1 Project Summary

Definition: The M.A.P.S. project is a conceptual exploration of alternative models for the distribution of music and methods for promoting the realization of these models.

Themes:

a) Creative control belongs first and foremost to creators. Relinquishing any degree of creative control is an option available at the discretion of creators, to promote their ambitions. The ideal model for music distribution will promote this reality

b) Musicians and their patrons2 will receive the greatest range of value and options from a business model where the recording, production, distribution and promotion of music is treated as a service which promotes connection rather than a commodities business where musicians are treated as piece workers and listeners are treated as mere consumers

c) Increasing the diversity and availability of content will benefit the majority of musicians, music-related businesses and patrons of music

d) Properly managed3, file sharing and internet "radio" represent the most significant opportunity for musicians and their patrons since the advent of affordable home recording

e) Non-proprietary digital formats for recorded music provide musicians with the most economical options for distribution and patrons with the most versatile access to the music they collect. Versatile things provide greater value than non-versatile things. People are most willing to pay for those things that provide them with the greatest value

Goal: The first goal is to create a strategy paper that frames alternative models for music distribution that promote these themes and defines realistic, defined milestone actions and projects that enable these models.

Timeline:

a) The timeline for a draft release of the M.A.P.S. Strategy White Paper is April 1, 2002

b) The timeline for the release of the formal M.A.P.S. Strategy White Paper is May 1, 2002

Participation: Participation is invited from any interested party.

a) Contact visionary@gumption.com to provide input on the White Paper

b) Contact visionary@gumption.com to become a peer reviewer of the draft White Paper

c) Distribute this information to any potentially interested party or provide M.A.P.S. contact information to them and invite them to inquire about this information

1) Musical Anarchy Projected Synchronously

2) Patron:

a) One that supports, protects, or champions someone or something, such as an institution, event, or cause; a sponsor or benefactor: a patron of the arts

b) A customer, especially a regular customer

3) "Managed" in this context does not imply centralization or monolithic control, but rather facilitating these activities by providing listeners with better tools to seek and select content and consistently providing them with the option to connect to further information and directly support the work of creators they enjoy

It Is The Nature of Information to Transgress Artificial Boundaries

this is what is up with this.
